Week 11

Wow these weeks seem to be going by so quickly! And YES you are going the Right Way so KEEP GOING!

Last Week at Stake Conference we were introduced to a new challenge by our Stake Presidency to make our homes more "Christ centered." And also to read th Book of Mormon by the next Stake Conference in 6 months. (Read 3 pages per day = 6 months).

This goes right along with the challenge that we have been doing with the sisters in our ward!

Here are a few of the inspiring quotes from the Adult Stake meeting on Sat. May 22nd:

"When we set a goal and go to the Lord, He blesses us."
"Set goals that are realistic and that will stretch you. Then work on it!"
"The things that matter most are what we need to be focusing on."
-President Hitchcock

"When setting goals if we fail to keep track of our progress, then we may not reach our goal." -President Evans

"We need to to choose the BEST things over the things that may still be good things." -President Bailey

Sisters look at it this way...We got a head start! =)

P.S. Sisters mark your calendar for Thursday June 16th for a Fantastic Relief Society Meeting Dinner. Everyone can Celebrate!

ONLY 2 WEEKS LEFT!

Give it Your Best! Only 3 Weeks left!

The Last 3 weeks of the Challenge start This Sunday May 22nd 2011. The end is in sight. Let's give it our BEST!

There has been research which shows that is takes 21 days to fully cultivate a new habit because 21 days is the time required for new neuropathways to be fully formed in your brain.

So...let's give these last 3 weeks all that we have to reach our personal goals and to form the habits we want to incorporate in our own individual lives.

So really...21 days is a lot less intimidating than 12 weeks. If you haven't given the challenge your best effort, or if you fizzled out halfway through, or EVEN if you never started...Now is the time to Jump in and GO GO GO for the last 3 weeks!

Find Joy while becoming "More Fit For His Kingdom."

Week 9 and feeling FINE!

We are into Week 9 of the Challenge of becoming "More Fit For His Kingdom."

We are 2/3rds of the way through!

Dig in and dig deep =) KEEP ON GOING!

This challenge is all about forming habits that we want to incorporate into our lives.

"Humans mostly act on learned behavior patterns called habits, which determine all your actions. It is possible to learn new behavior patterns. When you learn to motivate yourself by accepting challenges, you become unstoppable. So, feel the challenge. It helps you to self-motivate."

Celebrate the little things!

I intend to do a lot of things everyday.
Sometimes I get to all of it, and sometimes I don't do any of the things I intend to do. Then I make myself feel guilty and I carry too much worry around.
By doing this, I am not allowing myself to enjoy the little things in everyday life.

I hope that the challenge has not made anyone feel guilt for things that don't get done.

Lets focus on the things that we DO and celebrate our successes along the way!

Inspiring Tips

Denise, thanks for posting the motivational video as a perfect introduction to what I want to share this week. We all face daily challenges and continue developing strategies that help us persevere and strengthen our abilities to succeed. Oftentimes, we're successful individually in our efforts and sometimes we become aligned with others for strength. This is my advice and recommendation for us this week -- Let's align forces and strengthen each other! There are ample ways of doing this but as an offering for one extra point, make a comment to this posting of something you do very well as it relates to one of the components of this challenge. For there is strength in numbers so among us all we are strong!

For example, here's my tip:

5 servings fruits/veggies: Twice weekly, I wash and cut-up fresh veggies which are placed in individual bags to store in the fridge. These become perfect additions to lunches and make for a quick snack or alternative to something else that's ready to grab and eat.

Week 6 is here!

Sisters we are in week 6! Can you believe it!
Or are you feeling like... We are only in week six?

Here is a video that will hopefully help motivate all of us to keep going and to have success. This may not be the hardest challenge we have ever faced, but it is called a challenge for a reason.

Yesterday (Easter Sunday) everyone got all points Free.
So today is a great day to set new goals and feel rejuvenated.
Plus the sun is/was shining!

Keep up the great work!

If you haven't started... it's never too late to get going,
or if you have fizzled out... its a great week to start again!

Make this challenge fit your life and make it worthwhile!

"Action is the foundational key to all success."

Don't give up Sisters!

Dear Mona 3rd Ward Sisters,

I have had some pretty low scoring weeks lately with the challenge, and since it is Spring break there is even less schedule to my chaos! But I am determined to NOT give up. I hope if any of you have felt the same way, you will keep going and see this challenge to the end!

Since Easter Sunday is Get all points free, I decided that I would recharge my determination to reach my goals starting with a perfect scoring day =).

The challenge is designed to help us acheive our personal goals, not to compare or compete and definitely not to discourage. Don't give up on reaching your goals!

Here is a great quote by Martin Luther King Jr:

"The ultimate measure of a (wo)man is not where (s)he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where (s)he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

-D.B.

If any of you have words of advice or encouragement I would love to hear them =)

We're into week 4 already!

Wow, how time flies and the last 3 weeks are no exception. I hope you've found areas of greater strength and focus and suggest you take a moment to reflect on the many things you have done so well as we begin this new week. In fact, to reward you, here's an offering for free points this week:

  • Chose 1 category that brings you satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment. For every day this week (beginning today) that you fulfill the requirement(s) of that category, double your points. This gives you an opportunity to gain 5 additional points!

To support you with your healthy habits, here's a tip I hope you'll find helpful regarding appropriate portions. Oftentimes, portions we're accustomed too have become much larger than recommended serving sizes. This guide easily identifies food portions for their serving size in comparison with common household items. This is not an exhaustive list but knowing appropriate portions for some common items should help you monitor consumption and may guide you when organizing your basic meal plans. Each item listed is considered 1 serving towards the daily recommended servings.

  1. Dairy Group (2-3 servings/day): Milk (8oz) = small milk carton container Cheese (1 1/2 oz) = 2 9-volt batteries Yogurt (8 oz) = baseball Sour cream (1/4 cup) = golf ball

  2. Meat & Beans (2-3 servings/day): Meat, poultry or fish (2-3 oz serving) = deck of cards Peanut butter (1 tsp) = a lipstick cap Beans (1 cup or 2 oz) = baseball 1 Egg serving is (1 whole or 2 whites) Tofu (1/2 cup) = bulb part of a standard light bulb

  3. Vegetables & Fruits (5-9 servings/day): Raw, leafy greens (1 cup) = baseball Raw vegetables (1 cup) = baseball Cooked vegetable(s) or fresh fruit (1/2 cup) = a computer mouse Baked potato (medium size) = a computer mouse Juice -- fruit or vegetable (1/2 cup) = 4 oz baby bottle

  4. Grains (6-11 servings/day): Bread (1 slice) = a computer disk Cereal, dry (1 cup) = baseball Rice or cooked cereal (1/2 cup) = size of a cupcake wrapper Pasta (1 cup) = baseball Roll (1) = bar of soap Bagel (small) = diamater of a round beverage coaster Tortilla (regular) = size of a salad plate Pancake (small) = CD

  5. Oils & Fats (Consume sparingly and seek for monosaturated fats & oils rather than polyunsaturated or saturated fats and trans fats.) Salad dressing (1 tsp) = size of a 1/2 dollar Oil (1/2 tsp) = a thimble full Nuts (1 oz) = square package of dental floss

Our True Identity

This video was used at the Relief Society Dinner in December. A great way to get a spiritual activity in for today. -D.B.

Fit for His Kingdom Scorecard

We've heard that some need copies of the weekly scorecard but I've not been able to get the file attached to the blog postings. If you need a scorecard, please email Monica Sage at mamamiasage@gmail.com and the file can be sent to you. We'll also try to keep copies of the scorecard in the binder that's distributed through Relief Society. I love this quote from Gordon B. Hinckley and hope you find strength and wisdom in his words, "Faith in something greater than ourselves enables us to do what we have said we'll do, to press forward when we are tired or hurt or afraid, to keep going when the challenge seems overwhelming and the course is entirely uncertain." We hope this challenge is strengthening you, building your confidence, encouraing you to continue doing the great things you do every day, and causing you to focus on what really matters most in your life! Keep it up...you're doing great!
Green Smoothie

Audrey Bandley has a great way to get her fruits and veggies in.
Thanks for sharing Audrey, give yourself a bonus point!

Basically, you can just throw in any fruits/veggies that you want, but here is my very favorite concoction:

Green Smoothie
3 green apples, cored and chopped (you can peel them, but I like the peel on)
1 kiwi
1 mango
1 handful of spinach
1 cup broccoli
1/2 of a fresh pineapple
1 banana
2 cups orange juice
1 cup carrot juice

Blend really well (for about 5 minutes) in a food processor. I also use the pulse option to make sure all the big chunks are gone. ( I'm sure you can use a blender, but I don't have a good one, so I use the processor...)

Add color to your meals

March is National Nutrition Month and an article posted by the American Diabetic Association encouraged people to "eat right with color" by preparing and serving a variety of fruits and vegetables. It is also suggested that fruits and veggies fill half the plate leaving the other half for protein, dairy, and/or grains combined. If you have tips for increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables in your diet, please share your comments -- and give yourself a bonus point for contributing your ideas.
